Fritz the Defending Indian Wells Champion
The Indian Wells tournament is essentially Fritz’s hometown tournament. So his victory in the desert a year ago, over Rafael Nadal in the final, was a big bucket-list item checked off.
To defend it would be next-level. But he’s the slight underdog against Sinner, whom he defeated in the fourth round at Indian Wells back in 2021.

Fritz’s toughest match so far was his first, when he met up-and-coming fellow American Ben Shelton, a quarterfinalist at the Australian Open.
After losing the first set, he prevailed. And then he had no trouble against Sebastian Baez, the No. 30 seed but a player more comfortable on clay.
In the round of 16, he met unseeded Hungarian Marton Fucsovics. Also no problem.
Fritz vs Sinner Match History
Year | Tournament | Surface | Score | Winner |
---|---|---|---|---|
2021 | Indian Wells (R16) | Outdoor Hard | 6-4, 6-3 | Fritz |
For Sinner, the road to the final eight led through a trio of 30-something players who are still tough: France’s Richard Gasquet and Adrian Mannarino, and 37-year-old Swiss Stan Wawrinka.
Sinner struggled with his health in 2022. But so far in 2023 he is 15-3 and has lost to only the best.
Fritz vs Sinner Prediction
Sinner’s power is more effortless. And he’s quicker.
But at 6-5, Fritz has a huge serve, and he’ll have the home crowd. It’s a bit surprising the Fritz vs Sinner odds aren’t a little more even. But people have been believing in Sinner’s talent for a long time now.
The home-court advantage could prove to be the difference for our Fritz vs SInner prediction.

Alcaraz vs Auger-Aliassime Odds
Player | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
[1] Carlos Alcaraz (ESP) | -4.5 (+110) | -350 | O 21.5 (-122) |
[8] Félix Auger-Aliassime (CAN) | +4.5 (-146) | +270 | U 21.5 (-110) |
If the -350 odds for Alcaraz as the favorite in the Alcaraz vs Auger-Aliassime odds are surprising, it’s because the world No. 2 has yet to beat Auger-Aliassime in three previous meetings. Will that change this time in our Alcaraz vs Auger-Aliassime picks?
Auger-Aliassime saved six match points before beating No. 17 seed Tommy Paul in a third-set tiebreak, in the round of 16 late Tuesday night.
And now, he is the underdog against a player he has a 3-0 record against.
Unusual Head-to-Head History for Alcaraz vs Auger-Aliassime
Not many are undefeated against Carlos Alcaraz. But Auger-Aliassime is.
He first beat him in the quarterfinals of the 2021 US Open. Alcaraz was just 18 and on fumes by the time he got to the final eight.

The Canadian faced the Spaniard again at Davis Cup last fall, the week after Alcaraz won the US Open and also was on fumes.
And Auger-Aliassime faced him again on a super-fast indoor hard court (his best conditions) last October in Basel. And he beat him again.

2021 | US Open (QF) | Outdoor Hard | 6-3, 3-1 retd | Auger-Aliassime |
On paper, Alcaraz is the more complete, accomplished player at this stage despite his tender age.
Alcaraz vs Auger-Aliassime Prediction
Alcaraz missed the Australian swing and injured his leg in Rio de Janeiro on the clay a few weeks ago. He skipped Acapulco as a result.
But he has looked and felt fine so far at Indian Wells. He hasn’t dropped a set. And while Auger-Aliassime was grinding it out against Paul, Alcaraz had an easy night as Jack Draper retired with a stomach pull early in the second set of their round-of-16 match.
He’s fresh, and he’s likely to give Auger-Aliassime everything he can handle.
