Georgia, Michigan, TCU and Ohio State occupy the four spots in the final College Football Playoff rankings.

The happiest people in the nation this morning reside in Columbus, Ohio. Idle Ohio State snuck into the final College Football Playoff rankings after USC lost to Utah in Friday’s Pac-12 Championship game.

Georgia Remains atop CFP National Championship odds
Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs locked up the #1 spot in the College Football Playoff with a 50-30 blowout of the LSU Tigers in the SEC Championship game.
Quarterback Stetson Bennett was his usual efficient self in what was a defacto home game for the Bulldogs at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Bennett threw for 274 yards and 4 touchdowns in the victory.

The possible Heisman-trophy finalist embodies the epitome of this Georgia team: professional, and consistent, while not overly spectacular but yet outstanding. With the Bulldogs playing like this, it’s difficult to envision any team defeating them in the College Football Playoff.
The Dawgs improved to 13-0 for the first time in program history ahead of the release of the final CFP rankings. Kirby Smart’s team will also sit atop the final College Football Playoff rankings for the very first time. Georgia will face Ohio State in the Peach Bowl, where they have opened as 6.5-point favorites. Beware of the Dawgs.
Michigan Stomps Purdue
The back-to-back Big Ten Champions enter this year’s College Football Playoff looking for more. Michigan’s devastating backfield combo of J.J. McCarthy and Donovan Edwards was simply too much for Purdue. The Wolverines put up 225 yards rushing while dispatching the Boilermakers.

The recipe for Jim Harbaugh’s men is clear. Play tough, hard-nosed defense and run the football down the opponents’ throat.
Oddsmakers seem to like the Wolverine’s chances this year as Michigan’s CFP national championship odds sit at just +280. A Fiesta Bowl match-up with TCU leaves a CFP national championship appearance within the Wolverines’ grasp. Michigan opened as 9.5-point favorites over TCU.
Trojans bounced from CFP National Championship Contention
Lincoln Riley’s USC Trojans were unceremoniously bounced from the College Football Playoff on Friday night.
Cameron Rising and the Utah Utes took no prisoners while beating up on the Trojans for 60 minutes. Except for a 17-3 first-quarter burst, USC was second-best all night.

Regardless of the outcome, USC fans should be overjoyed with the turnaround in Lincoln Riley’s first season in charge. The return of Caleb Williams and many key pieces will make USC one of the favorites for the 2024 College Football Playoff.
