DraftKings Tops In Ohio Sports Betting Handle For July

• DraftKings was the top Ohio online sports betting operator for the month of July
• For the first time since Ohio’s January sports betting launch, FanDuel did not report the highest online sports betting handle for a month

July is historically one of the slowest months in the sports betting calendar and Ohio is learning it first hand. The Ohio Casino Control Commission reported $331.08 million in total Ohio sports betting handle for the month, its lowest handle total since its January launch.

Despite the slow month, DraftKings Ohio scored a win in the Buckeye State. DraftKings reported $116.18 million in online sports betting handle compared with $106.67 million from FanDuel Ohio for July, the first time DraftKings has ever topped FanDuel in online sports betting handle for a month.

FanDuel has been the top online sports betting operator in terms of handle for the last six months.

July Historically Slowest Month

The Ohio Casino Control Commission reported $331,083,998 in total sports betting handle and $37.1 million in taxable revenue. It was more than a $31 million decline in handle from June’s sports betting report, but an increase of nearly $5 million in total taxable revenue.

Promotional spending among the online sports betting operators fell to a new low in July as well. Operators only spent $10.7 million on promotions for the month, a decline of nearly $4 million from June’s total, which had been the state’s previous low. For comparison, during the launch of sports betting in January operators spent more than $319.8 million on promotions to attract bettors.

Despite DraftKings winning the online sports betting handle war for the month, FanDuel still notched the highest taxable revenue figures for the month. FanDuel reported nearly $14 million in online sports betting taxable revenue compared with $11.8 million for DraftKings.

Bet365 maintained its hold on the third spot in the state, reporting $23.52 million in total online sports betting handle, narrowly edging out BetMGM’s $22.97 million in online sports betting handle.
