Best Bets to Win Gold (First) for Team USA
The biggest gold-medal favorites – like women’s basketball and softball, men’s basketball, and the US 4×100 relay team – won’t get a chance to win gold until later in the games.
But it’s possible this bet will cash much earlier.
Mary Carolynn Tucker has a chance at gold in the first event to finish, women’s 10m air rifle, which goes on Saturday, July 24. The odds at PointBet have her as a -170 favorite to win a medal. They don’t currently have gold-medal futures posted. She doesn’t appear to be the outright favorite as India’s Elavenil Valrivan is a -500 favorite to finish among the top three.
Brandon McNulty and Lawson Craddock will suit up for Team USA in the men’s cycling road race later on Saturday, but they are +9000 and +15000 longshots, respectively, so don’t get your hopes up there.
Courtney Hurley is a +5000 bet in women’s individual epee, also on Saturday. If none of those cash, pay attention to men’s individual sabre on Saturday night. American Eli Dershwitz is the third-favorite to win gold at +800. Not a great chance, by any means, but a real chance.
And if all those fail, just sit back and wait for Breanna Stewart and company to run roughshod through the women’s basketball tournament, right through to the gold-medal game on August 7.
